The Jive
Around the middle of the 20th-century people yearned for peace and a distraction from the horrors of the world wars of previous years. Music and dance was that very welcome distraction.

The 1940s was a special time for dance, particularly in the UK. With the aid of the American servicemen who arrived to help with the war effort, the era witnessed major changes in music and dance style. The thread that was built on ragtime, jazz and a number of other musical styles/genres of earlier years, developed and ran through the 1940s and 50s as a lively beat to which people could first Jive then Rock 'n' Roll.

Dancers today have discovered that the different authentic styles of Lindy Hop, Balboa, Swing Jive, Rock 'n' Roll and some ballroom styles, can be used with much of the music of the 1940s, 50s and the early 60s. Having been a Jiver for many years, I have been fascinated by the swing jive beat of this era.

Listening to, playing and dancing to this music is what I like to do. Teaching people to jive, exercising and enjoying dancing is an extremely fulfilling pastime.

There are many fine teachers of the Authentic Swing Jive style of dancing in the local area. If you want to know where to learn to jive, check out our Jive Class pages on here or get in touch via the contacts page... then go jiving... What's stopping you?
